“Why We Teach This: It’s About More Than Cows & Grass”

Hello there, my friends — welcome back to another episode of the Fat Wallets Podcast. I’m Jim Elizondo from Real Wealth Ranching, and today’s episode is something a little different. Something a little closer to the heart.
I'd like to discuss with you why we do this. Why do we teach? Why do we pour time, effort, and energy into helping ranchers and farmers around the world change the way they manage their land, their herds, and their futures?
Because it’s not just about grazing techniques or growing more grass. It’s not just about increasing stocking rates to increase profits or building soil organic matter, even though those are real and powerful outcomes.
No, today I want to talk about the deeper “why.”

The real reason behind the Total Grazing Academy, behind these podcasts, behind every onsite course, every coaching call, every email, and lesson we put out there.
For us, this has never been just about cows and grass.
It’s about families.
It’s about freedom.
It’s about healing the land — and healing ourselves in the process.

A Personal Story
Let me tell you something personal.
Years ago, I ran a confined dairy nutrition business. I was successful on paper, balancing rations, building spreadsheets, and making it all work.
And even though I was helping confined dairies to double their profits and increase the productive life of their cows, and making money myself. I did not feel complete
There was something that just didn’t sit right in my soul.
I saw beautiful animals locked in dirt pens, with feed delivered to them, and then the manure hauled away. I saw soil turning to dust. I saw people — good people — working harder every year, just to stay afloat. Buying more inputs. Pouring more money into broken systems.
And I kept asking myself, 'What are we doing?'
Are we really improving things?
Or are we chasing our tails while the land and the people are slowly being worn out?
It took some significant changes and humbling lessons from nature for me to see a different perspective.
And once I saw it, I knew I couldn’t keep it to myself.

Why It's More Than Cattle
Livestock are the vehicle. They’re the animal we’ve chosen to partner with. But they’re not the end goal.
What we really want is for:

• Families to stay on the land.
• Producers to have dignity again.
• The next generation to look at this life and say, “Yes, I want to do that.”

We want to see people make money doing something that feels right — something that brings peace instead of stress, something that builds instead of depletes.

We want our pastures to improve every year, not deteriorate.
We want to be able to walk across our land and feel the soil spongy under our feet, hear it breathing again, to see life in the soil, in the grasses, and in the birds returning to nest. We want abundant and leafy pasture for our livestock
This work…
It’s not about domination. It’s about cooperation with nature.
And the beautiful thing is, when you align with natural principles — the kind that built the most fertile soils on Earth — you don’t just produce more.

You heal more.
Your cattle become easier to manage.
Your grass becomes more resilient.
And your mind becomes clearer.

Because you’re finally in sync with the system, the natural world.

The Bigger Problem We’re Solving
Let’s zoom out for a second.
Most ranchers today are stuck in a cycle. You know the one:

• Overgrazed pastures
• Compacted soil layer
• Hay bills are piling up
• Their livestock is losing body condition
• The land is declining every year

And no time to rest or even think

And they’ve been told this is normal.

They’ve been taught by grazing “gurus” who never actually raised livestock for profit, or by agricultural schools that are more focused on chemicals than biology.
And because of that, many ranchers have lost hope.

They think this is just what ranching is — constant stress, high costs, and no way out.
That’s why we teach what we teach.

Because there is a better way. And it starts with trusting nature again.

Around the World, the Pattern Is the Same
One of the most beautiful things we’ve seen in the Total Grazing Academy is that this works anywhere.

• We have students in Spain rebuilding their savannas while naturally improving soil fertility.
• Students in Paraguay are stockpiling native grasslands as standing hay and getting rid of invading brush
• Students in Missouri are doubling their herd size without buying more land.
• Folks in the dry areas of Australia are managing through drought by grazing deeper and resting longer.

No matter the forage type, no matter the environment, the pattern is the same:

Respect the plant’s recovery cycle.
Don’t allow selective grazing.
Move in sync with the land.
Stockpile grass to save on hay.
Grow more long-term fertility in your soil.

It’s not magic — it’s biology.
And when you follow that biology, your stress levels decrease, your soil health improves, and your operation becomes more profitable and more peaceful.

The Human Side
But let me tell you what moves me the most.
It’s not the increasing grass productivity or enhanced soil fertility.
It’s not even the before-and-after photos of trampled grass and regrowth.
It’s when a farmer tells me:

“I finally had time to go fishing with my son.”
“My wife told me I seem happier again.”
“I stopped fighting with my cattle and started enjoying them.”
“I was able to take a day off, and the farm didn’t fall apart.”
“For the first time, I feel like I’m in control, not the other way around.”

That’s when I know we’re doing something that matters.
This is more than a grazing system.
It’s a life system.
It’s a way of seeing the world through cooperation, not control.
Through long-term thinking, not desperation.
Through abundance, not scarcity.

We’re Not Just Teaching — We’re Unlearning
A big part of this journey is unlearning.

Unlearning that leaving tall stubble means healthier plants.
Unlearning that over-rest is better than recovery-based timing.
Unlearning that more inputs mean more profit.
Unlearning that cows should be managed like wild animals.

We’ve all been taught things that sounded good… but didn’t work when applied.
The Total Grazing Program is about going back to first principles. To biology. To observable reality. To what the animals and the land are actually telling us.
And when we teach that, something powerful happens:
People start to see differently.
They walk their pastures with new eyes.
They recognize what full recovery looks like.
They stop blaming the weather, the cows, or the government — and start managing with clarity and confidence.
That’s the shift we’re after.

The Next Generation
And here’s maybe the most important piece:
We need to inspire the next generation.
Because let’s be honest — a lot of young people don’t want to come back to the ranch.
They see stress. Debt. Long hours. Worn-out parents. Struggling land.
But what if they saw:

• Grass is getting thicker every year
• Animals that are easy to handle
• A family business with a profit margin
• Free time to rest and recharge
• The land is improving yearly, with more biodiversity, more wildlife, and better drought resiliency
• Joy in the work again?

That’s the kind of farm or ranch the next generation wants to inherit.
And that’s the kind of environment we’re helping people build — all around the world.

Why We Keep Teaching
We continue to teach this because it matters.
Because no one else is teaching Total Grazing like this — from someone who’s lived it, not just studied it.
Because people are hungry for truth, and they’re tired of theory that doesn’t work.
Because this system saves land, restores dignity, and gives producers a real path forward.

And honestly?
Because we love it.

We love watching the lightbulbs go on.
We love hearing the success stories.
We love knowing that one more piece of land is recovering, not declining.
This isn’t just a business. It’s a mission.

Hola, amigos, bienvenidos de nuevo a otro episodio del podcast Ganaderos Exitosos. Soy Jaime Elizondo de Real Wealth Ranching, y el episodio de hoy es algo un poco diferente. Algo más cercano al corazón.

Me gustaría hablar con ustedes sobre por qué hacemos esto. ¿Por qué enseñamos? ¿Por qué dedicamos tiempo, esfuerzo y energía a ayudar a ganaderos de todo el mundo a cambiar la forma en que gestionan sus tierras, sus rebaños y su futuro?

Porque no se trata solo de técnicas de pastoreo o de cultivar más pasto. No se trata solo de aumentar la carga ganadera para aumentar las ganancias o de generar materia orgánica en el suelo, aunque estos sean resultados reales y poderosos.
No, hoy quiero hablar del "por qué" más profundo.

La verdadera razón detrás de la Academia de Pastoreo Total, detrás de estos podcasts, detrás de cada curso presencial, cada llamada de coaching, cada correo electrónico y lección que publicamos.
Para nosotros, esto nunca se ha tratado solo de vacas y pasto.
Se trata de familias.
Se trata de libertad. Se trata de sanar la tierra y sanarnos a nosotros mismos en el proceso.

na historia personal
Déjenme contarles algo personal.
Hace años, dirigí un negocio de nutrición para vacas lecheras en confinamiento. Tenía éxito en teoría, equilibrando raciones, creando hojas de cálculo y haciendo que todo funcionara.
Y aunque ayudaba a las vacas lecheras en confinamiento a duplicar sus ganancias y aumentar la vida productiva de sus vacas, y ganaba dinero yo mismo, no me sentía completo.
Había algo que simplemente no me cuadraba.
Vi hermosos animales encerrados en corrales de tierra, con alimento entregado y luego el estiércol retirado. Vi la tierra convertida en polvo. Vi gente —buena gente— trabajando más duro cada año, solo para mantenerse a flote. Comprando más insumos. Invirtiendo más dinero en sistemas defectuosos.
Y me preguntaba constantemente: "¿Qué estamos haciendo?".

¿Realmente estamos mejorando las cosas?

¿O nos estamos dando vueltas mientras la tierra y la gente se desgastan lentamente? Me tomó algunos cambios significativos y lecciones de humildad de la naturaleza para ver una perspectiva diferente.
Y una vez que lo vi, supe que no podía guardármelo para mí.

Por qué es más que ganado
El ganado es el vehículo. Es el animal con el que hemos elegido asociarnos. Pero no es el objetivo final.
Lo que realmente queremos es:

• Que las familias permanezcan en la tierra.
• Que los productores recuperen su dignidad.
• Que la próxima generación vea esta vida y diga: "Sí, quiero hacer eso".

Queremos ver a la gente ganar dinero haciendo algo que se sienta bien, algo que traiga paz en lugar de estrés, algo que construya en lugar de agotar.
Queremos que nuestros pastos mejoren cada año, no que se deterioren.
Queremos poder caminar por nuestra tierra y sentir la tierra esponjosa bajo nuestros pies, oírla respirar de nuevo, ver la vida en la tierra, en los pastos y en las aves que regresan a anidar. Queremos pastos abundantes y frondosos para nuestro ganado.
Este trabajo…
No se trata de dominación. Se trata de cooperación con la naturaleza.
Y lo hermoso es que, cuando te alineas con los principios naturales —los que crearon los suelos más fértiles de la Tierra—, no solo produces más.
Te recuperas mejor.
Tu ganado se vuelve más fácil de manejar.
Tu pasto se vuelve más resistente.
Y tu mente se aclara.
Porque finalmente estás en sintonía con el sistema, con el mundo natural.

El mayor problema que estamos resolviendo
Ampliémonos un poco.
La mayoría de los ganaderos hoy en día están atrapados en un ciclo. Ya saben cuál es:

• Pastos sobrepastoreados
• Capa de suelo compactada
• Las facturas de heno se acumulan
• Su ganado pierde condición física
• La tierra se deteriora cada año
• Y no hay tiempo para descansar ni siquiera para pensar

Y les han dicho que esto es normal.
Les han enseñado "gurús" del pastoreo que en realidad nunca criaron ganado con fines de lucro, o en escuelas agrícolas que se centran más en los productos químicos que en la biología.
Y debido a eso, muchos ganaderos han perdido la esperanza.
Creen que la ganadería es simplemente esto: estrés constante, altos costos y sin salida.
Por eso enseñamos lo que enseñamos.
Porque hay una mejor manera.
Y comienza por volver a confiar en la naturaleza.

En todo el mundo, el patrón es el mismo
Una de las cosas más hermosas que hemos visto en la Academia de Pastoreo Total es que esto funciona en cualquier lugar.

• Tenemos estudiantes en España que están reconstruyendo sus savanas mientras mejoran naturalmente la fertilidad del suelo.
• Estudiantes en Paraguay están acaparando pastizales nativos como heno en pie y eliminando la maleza invasora.
• Estudiantes en Missouri están duplicando el tamaño de su rebaño sin comprar más tierra.
• En las zonas áridas de Australia, las personas se las arreglan para superar la sequía pastando más profundamente y descansando más tiempo.

Sin importar el tipo de forraje ni el entorno, el patrón es el mismo:

Respetar el ciclo de recuperación de la planta.
No permitir el pastoreo selectivo.
Moverse en sintonía con la tierra.
Acaparar pasto para ahorrar heno.
Aumentar la fertilidad a largo plazo de su suelo.

No es magia, es biología.
Y cuando sigues esa biología, tus niveles de estrés disminuyen, la salud de tu suelo mejora y tu operación se vuelve más rentable y pacífica.

El lado humano
Pero déjenme decirles lo que más me conmueve.
No es el aumento de la productividad del pasto ni la mejora de la fertilidad del suelo.
Ni siquiera son las fotos del antes y el después de la hierba pisoteada y el rebrote.
Es cuando un granjero me dice:

"Por fin tuve tiempo para ir a pescar con mi hijo".
"Mi esposa me dijo que me veo más feliz de nuevo".
"Dejé de pelear con mi ganado y empecé a disfrutarlo".
"Pude tomarme un día libre y la granja no se vino abajo".
"Por primera vez, siento que tengo el control, no al revés".

Ahí es cuando sé que estamos haciendo algo que importa.
Esto es más que un sistema de pastoreo.
Es un sistema de vida.
Es una forma de ver el mundo a través de la cooperación, no del control.
A través del pensamiento a largo plazo, no de la desesperación.
A través de la abundancia, no de la escasez.

No solo enseñamos, sino que desaprendemos
Gran parte de este proceso consiste en desaprender.

Desaprender que dejar rastrojos altos significa plantas más sanas.
Desaprender que el descanso excesivo es mejor que la recuperación basada en el tiempo.
Desaprender que más insumos significan más ganancias.
Desaprender que las vacas deben manejarse como animales salvajes.

A todos nos han enseñado cosas que sonaban bien… pero que no funcionaron al aplicarlas.

El Programa de Pastoreo Total se trata de volver a los principios básicos. A la biología. A la realidad observable. A lo que los animales y la tierra realmente nos dicen.
Y cuando enseñamos eso, sucede algo poderoso:
Las personas empiezan a ver de otra manera.
Recorren sus pastos con nuevos ojos.
Reconocen cómo es la recuperación completa.
Dejan de culpar al clima, a las vacas o al gobierno, y empiezan a gestionar con claridad y confianza.
Ese es el cambio que buscamos.

La Próxima Generación

Y aquí está quizás lo más importante:
Necesitamos inspirar a la próxima generación.
Porque, seamos honestos, muchos jóvenes no quieren volver al rancho.
Ven estrés. Deudas. Largas jornadas. Padres agotados. Tierras en dificultades.
Pero, ¿qué pasaría si vieran:

• El pasto crece cada año
• Animales fáciles de manejar
• Un negocio familiar con margen de beneficio
• Tiempo libre para descansar y recargar energías
• La tierra mejora cada año, con más biodiversidad, más vida silvestre y mejor resistencia a la sequía
• ¿La alegría en el trabajo de nuevo?

Ese es el tipo de granja o rancho que la próxima generación quiere heredar.
Y ese es el tipo de entorno que estamos ayudando a construir en todo el mundo.

Por Qué Seguimos Enseñando
Seguimos enseñando esto porque importa.
Porque nadie más enseña el Pastoreo Total como este, de alguien que lo ha vivido, no solo estudiado. Porque la gente tiene hambre de verdad y está cansada de teorías que no funcionan.

Porque este sistema salva tierras, restaura la dignidad y ofrece a los productores un verdadero camino a seguir.
¿Y de verdad?
Porque nos encanta.

Nos encanta ver cómo se encienden las bombillas.
Nos encanta escuchar las historias de éxito.
Nos encanta saber que un pedazo más de tierra se está recuperando, no deteriorando.
Esto no es solo un negocio. Es una misión.
