#67 The Importance of Explaining Complex Subjects in a Digestible Way | La Importancia de Explicar Temas Complejos en Una Forma Fácil de Digerir

Did I tell you I love complex subjects? I really enjoy building new businesses and projects and regenerating ranches or farms with livestock which requires complex and in-depth knowledge for it to work properly.

Today I will speak of the importance of explaining complex subjects in a digestible way. Please share this podcast with any person you think may enjoy and benefit from it. 

I have made podcasts about how to make long-term decisions, how to decide on which livestock species fit our enterprise better, taking into account the whole which includes man, society, profits, land and grass improvement, in-depth goals, family time, etcetera.

To be able to give such advice, it is essential that one has the experience and success record in these matters to show and to give confidence to oneself and to others. We need to have integrity and a passion to help others.

Anyone can make a complex subject even more complicated and will be held by most listeners as very knowledgeable. But, if one is honest and with a mind of service, it will be necessary to explain these matters in an easy-to-digest way by most people.

Many years ago, I started teaching livestock producers. I felt I had the knowledge to teach and had been successful for many years on my own ranches and businesses. But, my wife made me realize that even though I was correct, most attendees were not implementing what I taught.

You see, not everyone communicates or understands the same when some subject is explained, I had to change the way I was teaching. This has to do with the communication style each one of us is used to using. Some will communicate visually, some will communicate verbally, some will need to feel and touch, and some will need to interiorize information and then come up with their own conclusions!

Then, comes the matter of how you will explain your knowledge to your listeners. There is a saying: If you want to really comprehend a subject, teach it. And I would add, if you really want to comprehend something exceptionally well, teach it in a digestible way that most people can understand and implement.

This is what has been my passion for the last years, teaching the Total Grazing Program course and the Adapted Genetics with selection guidelines course in a simple, easy-to-digest, and implement way. Plus, early on in my teaching career, I found that remaining in contact with my students was essential for their success.

Why? Because the situation changes every day, as they become proficient in implementing this knowledge, their questions are very different than they were at first and if contact is lost, they may make serious mistakes that could un-motivate them.

The difference in my students' success rate was incredible, this really worked! Now, we have a high rate of success!

What I teach is contrary to what most other teachers propose, and it works much better because I try to emulate nature in its processes and look back in time to before man came and started degrading the land and livestock genetics.

An example: most grazing teachers say that selective grazing should be used as that is what they observe in nature, but selective grazing leads to overgrazing, which is re-grazing a plant before it has fully recovered! What they do not consider, is that in pristine environments like some places still left on earth, the grazing, achieved by many different ruminant and hindgut digestion species is severe and total, which means there is not much combustible material for fires when the dry times roll in. They do not consider the role that huge numbers of very large hindgut fermenters animals had in achieving a total graze, which along with the ability to migrate, back and forth, created the deepest soils in the world. Soils that many people are still degrading with selective grazing! This is why many agencies exclude livestock from the land which makes things even worse, and all of this comes from not understanding how nature used to work and function before man came into the scene.

Then, there is the matter of Genetics. Modern man has made huge mistakes in selecting livestock in the last 80 years. By selecting for the higher and higher individual animal performance they have diluted, so to say, the resistance expressions of their genes which means they have created animals that require selective grazing and large amounts of costly inputs which contribute to degrading the land and lower livestock owners' profits.

What is needed is a grazing program that considers everyday management along with whole seasons, and multi-years, and that actually achieves success in regenerating our soil humus by avoiding overgrazing even at high to very high stocking rates which are needed to increase our land productivity.

On the livestock genetics side, we need animals that not only are efficient at converting our grasses to saleable products but are resilient enough to improve the land on which they graze by their actions when managed correctly and at a low cost.

This is what I teach in an easy-to-digest and implemented way, in the Total Grazing Program online course and the Adapted Genetics with selection guidelines online course.

1. Anyone can complicate a subject and make it appear as if he knows much.
2. Experience, doing, is essential to be able to explain complex subjects or knowledge in an easy way.
3. Integrity and passion to help others are needed.
4. Selective grazing is used to maintain poorly adapted modern genetics producing, this leads to low stocking rates and overgrazing which is re-grazing a plant before it has fully recovered.
5. What is needed is a grazing program that avoids overgrazing, even at high to very high stocking rates which are needed for improving your land and its productivity.
6. Modern livestock genetics, selected under artificial conditions, are not fit to improve the land on which they graze.
7. What is needed is identifying better animals and breeds that have a higher degree of adaptation to form a better animal that can improve the land and maximize productivity measured in pounds per acre.
8. Both of these programs need to be low-cost and use biological methods to never contradict nature.
9. Continuity, after taking these courses, is necessary to avoid costly mistakes and to continue learning and improving our land.

Para poder dar tales consejos, es esencial que uno tenga la experiencia y el historial de éxito en estos asuntos para mostrar y dar confianza a uno mismo y a los demás.

Primero, necesitamos tener integridad y pasión por ayudar a los demás.

Cualquiera puede volver un tema complejo aún más complicado y la mayoría de los oyentes lo considerarán un gran conocedor. Pero, si uno es honesto y con mente de servicio, será necesario explicar estos asuntos de una manera fácil de digerir para la mayoría de las personas.

Hace muchos años comencé a dar clases a productores ganaderos. Sentí que tenía el conocimiento para enseñar y había tenido éxito durante muchos años en mis propios ranchos y negocios. Pero mi esposa me hizo darme cuenta de que, aunque yo estaba en lo correcto, la mayoría de los asistentes no estaban implementando lo que enseñé en el curso presencial.

Verás, no todos comunican o entienden igual cuando se explica algún tema, tuve que aprender, y cambiar la forma en que estaba enseñando. Esto tiene que ver con el estilo de comunicación al que cada uno de nosotros estamos acostumbrados.

¡Algunos se comunicarán visualmente, algunos se comunicarán mejor verbalmente, algunos necesitarán sentir y tocar, y algunos necesitarán interiorizar la información y luego sacar sus propias conclusiones!

Luego, viene la cuestión de cómo explicarías tu conocimiento a sus oyentes: hay un dicho: si realmente quieres comprender un tema, enséñalo. Y agregaría, si realmente deseas comprender algo excepcionalmente bien, enséñalo de una manera digerible que la mayoría de las personas pueda entender e implementar.

Esto es lo que ha sido mi pasión durante los últimos años, impartir el curso del Programa de Pastoreo Total y el curso de Genética Adaptada con pautas de selección de una manera sencilla, fácil de digerir y de implementar. Además, al principio de mi carrera como maestro, descubrí que permanecer en contacto con mis alumnos era esencial para su éxito.

¿Por qué? Debido a que la situación en una finca ganadera cambia todos los días, y a medida que se vuelven expertos en la implementación de este conocimiento, sus preguntas son muy diferentes a las que tenían al principio y si se pierde el contacto, pueden cometer errores graves que podrían desmotivarlos.
La diferencia en la tasa de éxito de mis alumnos fue increíble, ¡esto realmente funcionó! Ahora, ¡tenemos una alta tasa de éxito!

Ahora bien, lo que enseño es contrario a lo que proponen la mayoría de los otros maestros, y funciona mucho mejor porque trato de emular la naturaleza en sus procesos y mirar hacia atrás en el tiempo a antes de que el hombre apareciera y comenzara a degradar la tierra y la genética del ganado.

Un ejemplo: la mayoría de los maestros de pastoreo dicen que se debe usar el pastoreo selectivo ya que eso es lo que observan en la naturaleza, pero el pastoreo selectivo conduce al sobrepastoreo, que es volver a pastorear una planta antes de que se haya recuperado por completo.

Lo que no consideran, es que en ambientes prístinos como algunos lugares que aún quedan en la tierra, el pastoreo, logrado por muchas especies diferentes de rumiantes y de digestión posterior, es severo y total, lo que significa que no hay mucho material combustible para los incendios cuando los tiempos secos rodar. No consideran el papel que tuvo un gran número de animales fermentadores de intestino posterior muy grandes para lograr un pastoreo total, que junto con la capacidad de migrar, de un lado a otro, creó los suelos más profundos del mundo. ¡Suelos que mucha gente sigue degradando con el pastoreo selectivo! Es por esto que muchas agencias excluyen al ganado de la tierra lo que empeora aún más las cosas, y todo esto viene de no entender cómo funcionaba y funcionaba la naturaleza antes de que el hombre entrara en escena.

Luego, está el tema de la genética. El hombre moderno ha cometido grandes errores en la selección de ganado en los últimos 80 años.

Al seleccionar para un rendimiento animal individual cada vez más alto, han diluido, por así decirlo, las expresiones de resistencia de sus genes, lo que significa que han creado animales que requieren pastoreo selectivo y grandes cantidades de insumos costosos que contribuyen a degradar la tierra y reducir las ganancias de los ganaderos.

Lo que se necesita es un programa de pastoreo que considere el manejo diario junto con temporadas completas, varios años, y que realmente logre regenerar el humus de nuestro suelo al evitar el sobrepastoreo, incluso con tasas de ganado altas o muy altas, que son necesarias para aumentar la productividad de nuestra tierra.

En el lado de la genética ganadera, necesitamos animales que no solo sean eficientes para convertir nuestros pastos en productos comercializables, sino que también sean lo suficientemente resistentes para mejorar la tierra en la que pastan con sus acciones cuando se manejan correctamente y a bajo costo.

1. Cualquiera puede complicar un tema y aparentar que sabe mucho.
2. La experiencia, el hacer, es fundamental para poder explicar temas o conocimientos complejos de forma sencilla.
3. Se necesita integridad y pasión por ayudar a los demás.
4. El pastoreo selectivo se utiliza para mantener la producción de genética moderna mal adaptada, lo que conduce a bajas tasas de carga animal y sobrepastoreo, que es volver a pastorear una planta antes de que se haya recuperado por completo.
5. Lo que se necesita es un programa de pastoreo que evite el sobrepastoreo, incluso con cargas altas a muy altas que son necesarias para mejorar su tierra y su productividad.
6. La genética ganadera moderna, seleccionada en condiciones artificiales, no es apta para mejorar las tierras en las que pastan.
7. Lo que se necesita es identificar mejores animales y razas que tengan un mayor grado de adaptación para formar un mejor animal que pueda mejorar la tierra y maximizar la productividad medida en libras por hectárea.
8. Ambos programas deben ser de bajo costo y utilizar métodos biológicos para nunca contradecir la naturaleza.
9. La continuidad, tras realizar estos cursos, es necesaria para no cometer errores costosos y seguir aprendiendo y mejorando nuestra tierra.
