Nature Is Always Giving Feedback | Observation No. 14
For about two years, I watched a farm near Katy, Texas, change after we stopped using chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides.
And something interesting happened.
We were no longer having insect-pest problems.
Later, the conditions changed.
Fertilizer was applied.
An armyworm outbreak appeared.
Insecticide was applied.
The armyworms died.
It looked like the problem had been solved.
But about a month later...
they came back.
And this time, the outbreak was larger.
Why?
That question is far more valuable than a quick explanation.
Because perhaps an outcome we don't want isn't only a problem to be corrected.
Perhaps it is also information.
In this Observation, we explore what happens when we stop looking only at symptoms and begin asking:
What is the system trying to tell us?
