Observation No. 16 - Nothing Lives Alone

Uncategorized Nov 04, 2026

What if a management decision works exactly as intended—and still costs you half a million dollars years later?

That happened to me on my dairy in Mexico.

The experience changed the way I think about genetics, animals, plants, soils, grazing, nutrition, economics—and biological systems themselves.

We divide biology into categories so we can understand it. Genetics. Nutrition. Reproduction. Animal health. Plants. Soil. Microbiology.

But nature does not live inside those categories.

In this Observation, we explore what can happen when we improve one part of a living system without yet seeing all the relationships connected to it.

The lesson is not to fear successful decisions.
It is to keep observing after they succeed.

What else changed?
What appeared later?
What became easier—or more difficult?
And what observation would cause us to change our current interpretation?

Because in biology, Nothing Lives Alone.
And nature, or reality, is Our Highest Authority.
